Today I came across this amazing design and concept by Teehan+Lax for an iPad application, not only playing with on-screen graphics, but playing with the iPad’s functions as a piece of hardware. This application documents the statistics of a season of baseball, but instead of having all information displayed via the screen, they decided to extend this beyond the screen, by building a 3D cover which interacts with the app. When selecting certain options on the application, this lights up an area on the screen, which through the 3D object, projects lights onto the corresponding statistics (which are made from clear acrylic plastic). I think this is an amazing idea and I love the idea of extending an application beyond the screen, a great inspiration. Another great piece from Teehan+Lax, you can see their other work here.
