SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. After having a lesson with Dan today on SEO I realised how important this is when creating a website. Search engines are websites such as ‘Google’, ‘Yahoo’ and ‘Bing’ which bring up results when searching for relevant websites to what you are looking for. People usually only look through the first few pages of results before giving up – so there’s no use of having a website that won’t come up in these first few pages otherwise there is no point of the website as it will never get seen. There are a few main factors that effect this.
First off is the amount of links on the website – the more incoming links the better, although shared links will only count as half links. Another factor is the amount of content on your website; it is essential to have as many keywords as possible to help get your website found on search engines. If you can get this right, you’ll be on the way to a more successful website which will get seen by more people. It is best to get your website to come up in the organic results (the results shown in the white area of google results) or there is always the option to get your website in the PPC (pay per click) results (the yellow results shown at the top and side of google), but this can be pricey!
