Persepolis (The Movie)

In today’s lecture we watched the French animated film ‘Persepolis’ (2007), based on Marjane Satrapi’s autobiographical graphic novel. This film explores Marjane’s identity, influenced by many factors throughout the film such as her family, the Iranian laws, and social trends.  Marjane is forced to wear a veil because of the Iranian laws, but the way we dress is a big part of our identity; so Marjane finds herself showing a sense of anarchy by rebelling against this law and becoming part of the punk scene, where she can express her own identity. I will be looking more in depth into this film since I will be writing about it in my essay. More information on the film can be found here:
