Today we had a visit from ‘Emily King’, talking about the Alan Fletcher exhibition, as the artist only recently passed away. Fletcher was an artist known for his typography graphic design. He was the founder of design company ‘Fletcher/Forbes/Gill’ along with Colin Forbes and Bob Gill in 1962 creating publications such as book designs, greetings cards and magazine covers along with others. Something that interested me about the artist is that he collected letters of the alphabet, 26 envelopes filled with magazine and newspaper cuttings to make his designs more unique. His exhibition (‘Alan Fletcher: Fifty Years of Graphic Work and Play’) is currently being shown at the Cube Art Gallery in Manchester (http://www.cube.org.uk/exhibitions/detail.asp?id=237).
